The Secrets of Hillsong, a four-part docuseries based on Vanity Fair‘s exposé of the global megachurch, will air the first two episodes tonight on FX. They will be available on Hulu tomorrow.
The docuseries traces the megachurch’s beginning, rise and recent scandals, which include sexual abuse allegations, moral failures and allegedly misusing church funds. Producers interviewed dozens of former Hillsong congregants from around the world as well as Carl Lentz, the former Hillsong NYC pastor who was fired in 2020, and his family.
The documentary marks the first interview from the Lentz family since the news broke nearly three years ago. In a lengthy Instagram post shared on May 9, Lentz opened up about his family’s involvement in the docuseries.
“We’ll see it when the world does,” Lentz wrote. “We were not interested in blame-shifting or responsibility deflection. We focus on my mistakes and the context of what transpired.”
The Secrets of Hillsong premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX with two episodes, followed by two more episodes on May 26. All episodes will stream the following day on Hulu.
